An award-winning German multinational company and a market leader in the field of precision gearboxes, high-performance motors, electronics and nanotechnology is seeking a Managing Director, based in Malaysia. Providing customer-specific complete solutions for a range of industries including medical technology, aviation and security industries, this dynamic company has operations worldwide and across the region.
To strengthen its footprint in Southeast Asia, the company is now searching for a Managing Director to take on the exciting role of establishing a local presence in Malaysia.
Job Description
The Managing Director will set up the new sales office in Malaysia and lead the subsidiary in a sustainable manner, in line with the company’s core values. The Director will be expected to represent the company nationally and internationally. Reporting will be directly to the CSO of the group at the European headquarters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and lead the sales subsidiary, including Malaysian office set-up, building a local team, and establishing operational processes
- Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve business objectives and revenue targets
- Manage the P&L of the subsidiary, ensuring financial performance aligns with company goals
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders
- Build-up, screen and manage external distributors and distribution partners
- Provide technical expertise and support to the sales team and clients, particularly in the areas of gearboxes and motors
- Monitor market trends and competitor activities to identify new business opportunities
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and company policies
The successful applicant should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Master’s degree desirable but not essential
- Minimum 5 years of experience in sales and management roles in the drive technology industry, including multinational companies (preferably European) or have held an international role previously
- National and international network in relevant industries
- Strong technical understanding of gearboxes, motors, and other drive technologies
- Strong relationships with customers of drive technology users ie. semiconductors, machine tools, food processing and packaging, etc.
- Strong distribution network in relevant industries with distribution management experience
- Proven track record of successfully establishing and managing a sales organization, including the setup and integration of after-sales support and technical service teams
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and make strategic decisions
- Malaysian national
- Fluent in English with local language proficiency
- Willingness to travel as required

- IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point), social media (Facebook, Instagram), familiarity with graphic design programmes is a plus.
- University degree or degree from another institution of tertiary education.
- Enjoy working in a team
- Willingness to be flexible in terms of time
- Social and intercultural competence
- High degree of independence, self-organisation, creativity and commitment as well as sociability.
- Experience in the fields of culture, press, politics is desirable, as is experience in public administration
German citizenship is not necessary. Interested candidates must have a permanent residence incl. resident passport and work permit.
The salary is based on the remuneration scheme of the German Embassy Kuala Lumpur. Depending on language skills and other knowledge and previous experience, the salary is approximately MYR 7,664.00/month (gross).
