The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is reshaping global trade by introducing a carbon price on imports of specific goods into the European Union.  As CBAM is phased in, importers of cement, iron, steel, aluminium, fertilisers, hydrogen, and electricity must comply with new reporting and payment obligations under EU regulations.

While compliance requirements apply directly to EU importers, Malaysia producers and exporters are increasingly expected to provide emissions data, improve transparency, and adopt lower-carbon processes to remain competitive and retain market access.
