BMW Visit

Synonymous with luxury vehicles and motorcycles, Bavarian automaker BMW celebrates 20 years of membership with MGCC this year.

To commemorate this special milestone, a small delegation from the Chamber popped by BMW’s headquarters in Cyberjaya for a catch-up as well as to present the team with an anniversary certificate.

Last year, the group marked two decades since establishing its headquarters in Cyberjaya, underscoring its commitment to investing in Malaysia and the ambition of becoming the country’s leading premium automaker.

Its headquarters is home to the BMW Group Regional Training Centre which provides technical and non-technical training programmes for the APAC region, a move that further reinforces the automaker’s role as innovators who are passionate about the transferring of knowledge to the next generation of workforce.

The training centre ensures that talent in the region is equipped with both technical and non-technical skills through training programmes for BMW and its other brands, MINI and Rolls Royce. One key component of these programmes includes training to support the development of electric vehicles (EVs).

As the number one premium electric vehicle provider in the country, BMW Group Malaysia Managing Director Benjamin Nagel said the market for EVs is becoming increasingly competitive not only due to the entry of Tesla but also the many Chinese brands that are entering Malaysia.

In May, BMW Group Malaysia announced it sold over 4,300 vehicles in the first quarter (1Q) of this year and in the same period, 370 electric vehicles were sold, demonstrating a 26% increase compared to last year.

As part of BMW Group Malaysia’s efforts to drive green mobility, over 2,020 charging facilities have been made available to customers through strategic partnerships with various EV charging providers in Malaysia.

Despite the competition Nagel spoke about, it appears that the group is set for an electrifying future.
